Release Candidate (RC) firmware set There are two kinds of firmware for SSDs Mass Production (MP) and Release Candidate (RC). Prior to an MP firmware release, there are beta firmware releases and an RC firmware release. Often, the RC is the same as the MP release, however there can be small changes and bug fixes made between the two. OWC has evaluated the RC for the 6Gb/s SandForce 2281 Processor and found it to be stable with no issues reported during our testing. However, as with any evolutionary product, issues may surface as different usages and configurations are employed and it is important to understand that there will be further updates and revisions.

Since no firmware update is currently offered for the OWC Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G SSD, no update page exists. November 3, 2018 This has kept my macbook pro stay alive running El Capitan. It is a 2008 and I use it daily in my Computer Science class. My students have all the new tech and are amazed at what my 08 model can do just as well as their 17 model. Thank you OWC for keeping my 'legacy' mac working just fine. In all my years of buying RAM, internal drives, external drive and other items from OWC (probably more than 15 years at this point), I have never had a single problem or failure with any product I've ordered.which is why I always come back here first when I need some kind of hardware for my computers. The shipping process is also quick and efficient, never a problem there either.

August 31, 2017 After installing this in my Mid-2010 MacBook, I was surprised at the speed. Now my Mac boots in a fraction of the time. Performance is great, even under Windows, which I installed using Bootcamp. I highly recommend this to anyone needing more speed from their Mac.

August 1, 2017 I've heard great things about OWC and their reliability for anything Macbook-related. I ordered to an Asian country which is where I currently am and the shipping was great at under $5! It did take a bit longer than their intended date by around one or two weeks but that's all considered how far my country is.

The bubble-wrapped letter kept the contents from OWC safe from harm and all was in perfect condition, packaged as new. The product works as intended. The only downside I've only ever heard of macsales is the shipping, but remember that once it's shipped, it's out of their hands how it all works out.

If you're paranoid of packages getting safely (as I am), I highly suggest you pay extra for faster + tracking service. Thank you MacSales for giving my university laptop the boost it needs before the school year! I would recommend this item to a friend!

June 13, 2017 I replaced the failing hard drive on a PC laptop with a 60 GB SSD drive from OWC. The screws for the mounting frame from the laptop seemed large for the SSD drive, but after calling OWC tech support, I went ahead with the installation. I then installed Ubuntu Linux on the SSD, and performance is amazing.

It takes 15 seconds to boot from a cold start and about 2 seconds for a browser to connect with the Internet. Guaranteed, that laptop never did anything so fast! I just wish the cost of SSD storage would come down further, but that's not OWC's fault. I would recommend this item to a friend!

My mid-2012 MacBook Pro feels like a new computer with this upgrade (alongside 16GB of RAM and a new battery, also from OWC). Certainly gave this old laptop a new lease on life.

My only note: the screws that connect the drive to the mounting rails from my old laptop took way more force to fully thread than I was comfortable with: I was worried I was breaking my new drive! It was probably the thread tape/loctite that was from the original installation, but with a bit of muscle, I was able to drive them fully home, and it fit like a dream.
