There is a folder 2.6.22-1-mepis64-smp in /lib/modules/. That folder contains a bunch of files with names like modules.ccwmap, modules.pcimap and so on that suggest to me that they may be needed to build different types of modules. This in turn suggests that the necessary files may be on my computer, just not where the make file is looking for them.
