Rated 5 out of 5 by Cinesis from Thank G-d I paid $400 for data recovery last Saturday to a computer repair guy in the New Yorker Hotel.
I had TWO Western Digital drives conk out on me - one of them so bad it required data recovery. In case you don't know, data recovery tends to cost between $900-2000.
I got lucky and found someone who did it cheap for $400. I have bought two Seagate drives and they mount immediately every time, even after accidental disconnection from my 2011 MacBook Pro 17. This GoFlex comes Mac formatted and it's a dream. Definitely go with this brand - I have no vested interest in recommending them. They are just the absolute best I have ever had.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mike from Great external drive for the Mac We use this drive to edit HD video with Final Cut Pro on a Mac. Shooting an HD project produces huge data files. This drive is large enough to contain an entire medium sized project. It is fast enough to edit without delays.

The detachable base offers forward and backward compatability with USB 2 and firewire 800 today and Thunderbolt and eSATA in the future if and when those bases becomes available. The price is high, but competitive. The drive is a solid performer and we will be purchasing more of these units. Rated 1 out of 5 by Images by Stacie from Terrible Reliability I bought one of these and transferred some files on to it.
The drive showed the space was taken up, but I couldn't see or access anything on it. I returned it and got another just like it.

The second drive arrived and I once again transferred the files. This time I could see them, but an error message came up saying mac os can't repair the drive. The files were once again unable to open or manipulate. I bought a Western Digital and put the files on it thinking maybe it was the files corrupting the drive, but no, that drive works just fine.
I returned this drive again. Rated 4 out of 5 by Travel Host from So Far So Good - except. Use the product for storing our footage, shows, etc. For our television show.
Iike the look. Portability and light weight - and the fact that it works with MAC and PC. Only thing I found unsettling was if you are daisy-chaining drives -my Western Digital and Seagate drives didn't mix unless the Seagate led the way. It just took me a bit to figure that out - but it did give me a few more gray hairs when it wouldn't show up on my desktop.
All's Well That Ends Well.
