I’ve been running it all morning and can say it’s working flawlessly– way better than Airfoil 4. The way I can both receive audio and control it from my iOS device is so much better than Reemote or AF Remote ever were! For people complaining about cost, let me just explain a simple fact: there’s no cheaper way on the planet to use a mac as a media hub to replicate a system costing tens to hundreds of times more than with Airfoil. I have better fine tuning ability than some friends with Savant and Crestron systems, and now with Satellite it gets even better. One thing I’d love to see you guys do is work with iRule out of Detroit and get a module so I can just drop in a tiny Satellite interface into my custom remotes. That would be legitimately killer.

You guys worked in so many cool little details on this release, like even scrolling over the level of audio on a speaker with my magic mouse and the volume going up and down. Airfoil is the backbone of my audio network, and I couldn’t do what I do without it. As a rule of thumb, homeowners should never run audio and digital cables near each other. Using Airfoil lets me use my existing house-wide network of grounded steel conduit (containing ethernet) to send audio.digitally., to the various zones in my house. Airport extremes then translate the digital audio to analog sound without causing interference or requiring me to run separate conduit lines for analog cables. A single MacPro in my home’s server room controls my entire airfoil network, which is in turn controlled by AirfoilRemote+AppleRemote on my iPhone. Thus, using Airfoil, all zones of my house can be controlled from my iPhone. Airfoil is by far the most important 3rd-party software in my arsenal of home entertainment utilities.

THANK YOU for moving the sync sliders! In AF4, we users had to launch Airfoil in debug mode in order to get to the sync adjust interface. One of my rooms has a 5.1 system, so audio is routed as such: networkairporthardware input switcher5.1 preampampspeakers.

Every other audio zone is just networkairportampspeakers. As you can imagine, there is a slight delay in that 5.1 zone caused by the additional devices. It was a hassle having to occasionally relaunch AF in debug mode just to monkey with the sync settings. This was the ONLY thing that I could not directly control from my iPhone. The new accessibility of the Sync sliders is wonderful. I have been a Rogue Amoeba user since ’07.

Later (version 2 and up) we added 1-N sending: 1 source, N outputs. That now includes Bluetooth, and hopefully in the future, Chromecast. But we have always lacked (and still lack) N-N: multiple sources, multiple outputs. There’s long been a small number of people asking for this, and it’s always been something we’ve considered. Thus far, however, it’s never bubbled up our list.

Assumedly the blame is all on Spotify for breaking it on their end but it’s been several years now and clearly they don’t intend to fix it.

Surely Spotify is one of the most used apps together with Airfoil and worth the time for a manual workaround. Fetching the artwork is pretty simple.
